Improving the Health and Health Care Services in Aboriginal Communities

Local knowledge in Aboriginal communities is essential to effective health care planning and delivery

Summary

The goal of this project was to encourage local knowledge as a foundation for official aboriginal health policy. Researchers sought to identify health needs in aboriginal communities concerning breastfeeding, access to health care, assessment of the food mail program, and respiratory health. The knowledge base of community members within aboriginal communities was used to guide new local prevention programs, which in turn were meant to increase participatory leadership.
