Student Outcomes: Public Schools vs. Independent Schools

Equivalent tests show that private school education produces higher student achievement across the board

Summary

The purpose of this internship was to inform the development of Fraser Institute School Report Cards by assessing the performance of schools with different characteristics. Large and small schools, language-based schools, rural and urban schools, and public and independent schools were all assessed. The intern examined what kinds of schools produced the most successful students, within groups of similar schools whether certain schools stood out as particularly successful, and whether some kinds of schools better served the diverse needs of students. The Fraser Institute used this background research to inform the development of its School Report Cards.
